Best Practices in Health and Prevention Education
The Prevention Educators Network was launched in 2010 by Alayne MacArthur, founder of Circa Learning LLC.
Circa Learning LLC designs and delivers premium, innovative professional development workshops and curriculum that change the way schools and communities teach and learn health and prevention education.
Alayne
MacArthur holds a Masters Degree in Education, Curriculum Design
and Instructional Technology from the State University of New York
at Albany, Graduate School of Education. Over the past 12 years,
the focus of Alayne’s professional training and practice has been
the translation of prevention research into practice, and
prevention practice into research. Alayne achieves this by engaging
prevention providers, researchers and funders in conversations and
exercises that build capacity for adoption, implementation and
sustainability of evidenced based health and prevention education
programs and approaches.
Professional development, strategic planning, curriculum design and learning assessment are tools that Alayne employs in her work. She was an early adopter of evidence based prevention education programs and came to be interested in the dialogue between research and practice as a result of her classroom experiences.
Organizations for whom Alayne has consulted include National Health Promotion Associates, Washington, DC Public Schools, The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, Centers for Disease Control, United Family Services Systems, The Tompkins County Youth Development Agency and the Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
